Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Airport – Negombo

You will arrive at Bandaranayake International Airport, where a representative of WonderScapes Travels will warmly welcome you. You will then be transferred to the coastal city of Negombo. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and relax, taking some time to unwind. In the late evening, enjoy a delicious seafood dinner by the beach, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the waves.

Negombo is a vibrant city enriched by diverse cultural influences. It is home to many beautiful churches and is often referred to as “Little Rome.” The golden sandy beaches here are also well known for their charm and tranquility.

Day 2: Negombo - Wilpattu

After a scrumptious breakfast, proceed to Wilpattu National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s largest wildlife sanctuaries, renowned for its rich fauna, lush greenery, and incredible birdlife. En route, stop at Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary, a unique ecological haven that serves as a nesting and breeding ground for hundreds of bird species.

Continue to Wilpattu and check in at your campsite, taking a moment to relax before setting out on a thrilling evening jeep safari. With a bit of luck, you may encounter Sri Lankan elephants, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, buffalo, and other magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

After returning from the safari, enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner and spend the night in the tented safari camps under a star-studded sky, making for a truly unforgettable wilderness experience.

Day 3: Wilpattu – Anuradhapura - Sigiriya

After breakfast, transfer to Anuradhapura and begin a city tour of this ancient capital. Commanding a rich Sri Lankan heritage, Anuradhapura is one of the world’s oldest and most remarkable civilizations, flourishing for over 1,300 years at its peak. The city’s crown jewel is the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi — a revered Bo sapling grown from the tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment — standing proudly for more than 2,200 years.

Stroll through the sacred sites of this historic city and admire a legacy that reflects Sri Lanka’s distinguished culture and spiritual heritage. Anuradhapura is one of the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka and is home to incredible stone carvings, including the ‘Isurumuniya Lovers’ and the ‘Aukana Buddha statue’. You will also marvel at the masterful colossal Buddha statue, with its serene expression and gracefully carved robe, a true reflection of supreme spirituality.

After this, continue your journey to Sigiriya. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel, relax, enjoy dinner, and unwind for the day.

Things to Keep in Mind

Wear modest, light-colored clothing with shoulders and knees covered when visiting temples and religious sites.

No hats or footwear allowed inside temples. Bring flip-flops (easy to remove) and socks for hot ground surfaces.

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and insect repellent. The tropical sun can be intense, especially during outdoor excursions.

Photography restrictions apply at certain religious sites. Always ask permission before taking photos of people or sacred areas.

Day 4: Sigiriya - Wasgamuwa

After a scrumptious breakfast, head to Sigiriya, the fifth-century rock citadel built during the reign of King Kasyapa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this magnificent fortress showcases the ingenuity of ancient Sri Lankan engineering and planning, and is one of the island’s most remarkable monuments, rich in art and culture.

Climb to the summit and pass through the remains of the colossal Lion’s Paws, enjoying sweeping views of the surrounding landscape and serene lake vistas. Admire the iconic frescoes of the “Cloud Maidens”, stroll along the famed Mirror Wall, and explore the ancient inscriptions and poems left by past visitors.

After descending from Sigiriya, continue your journey to Wasgamuwa. Visit the splendid Wasgamuwa Tank and enjoy observing elephants as they come to drink water and bathe, surrounded by the lush natural landscape.

Day 5: Wasgamuwa - Nuwara Eliya

Today, start your day early with a jeep safari in Wasgamuwa National Park (a breakfast packet will be provided). The park is dotted with several reservoirs, and the herds of elephants roaming freely make for an unforgettable sight. You may also spot a variety of other wildlife species during your safari.

After the wildlife expedition, continue your journey to Nuwara Eliya via Mahiyanganaya, with a visit to the Mahiyanganaya Temple en route. This historic temple is home to the first stupa built in Sri Lanka, dating back to the era of Lord Buddha.

Continue your journey to Nuwara Eliya and visit a tea plantation and factory, renowned for producing some of the finest Ceylon tea in the world. Learn about the tea manufacturing process and observe how the tea is carefully graded. As part of the visit, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of pure Ceylon tea at the factory.

Afterwards, continue to Nuwara Eliya, a charming hill town known for its refreshing mountain climate and scenic beauty. This picturesque town is one of Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resorts and lies at the heart of the country’s tea-growing region. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax before embarking on a Nuwara Eliya city tour, which includes a visit to the iconic Gregory Lake.

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Horton Plains – Ella - Udawalawe

After an early breakfast, embark on an exciting Horton Plains trek, starting at 6:30 am. Horton Plains is one of Sri Lanka’s most breathtaking locations, featuring a diverse ecosystem of montane evergreen forests, grasslands, and marshes.

Enjoy a picturesque trek, capturing the stunning panoramic views along the way. After the trek, descend to Ella, stopping en route to visit the glorious Ravana Falls. This popular sightseeing spot is one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka and a must-see attraction for nature lovers.

Day 7: Udawalawe – Yala

Following an early breakfast, embark on an adrenaline-packed jeep safari at Udawalawe National Park, a renowned destination known for its scenic beauty and diverse wildlife and flora. Located in the dry zone, the park’s unique ecosystem consists of forests interspersed with grasslands and thorny shrubs, providing a habitat for a wide variety of animals.

After exploring the park, visit the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe in the afternoon. Established in 1995, the center cares for injured, sick, and orphaned baby elephants from across Sri Lanka.

Next, proceed to Yala and check in to your safari camp to relax. Conclude the day with a delightful BBQ dinner at the camp, followed by an overnight stay in a tented safari camp.

After dinner, enjoy an exciting night bush walk, observing birds, reptiles, and other wildlife as they settle into their natural habitats. This unique experience amidst the stillness of the night will be truly unforgettable. After the walk, return to the camp to rest and recharge for the next day.

Day 8: Yala – Mirissa

After an early breakfast, proceed to Yala National Park, the second-largest and one of the most visited national parks in Sri Lanka. The park is spread across the Southern and Uva Provinces and is renowned for having one of the highest densities of leopards in the world. Yala is also home to over 200 species of birds and is recognised as one of Sri Lanka’s Important Bird Areas. With its diverse ecosystems, Yala supports a wide variety of wildlife, including Sri Lankan elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and numerous aquatic birds.

Day 9: Mirissa

After a scrumptious breakfast, head to Mirissa. Set off on an early morning whale-watching tour, where you may witness majestic blue whales and playful dolphins during an expert-guided excursion.

Later, unwind on the soft sands of Mirissa Beach, where gentle waves attract surfers and sun-seekers alike. You can also climb Coconut Tree Hill to enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the ocean, especially at sunset. End the day by savouring fresh seafood at a relaxed beachfront restaurant.

Today, spend the day at leisure.

Day 11: Departure

After breakfast, it is time to transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your flight home, taking with you unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka’s culture and landscapes.

At all religious sites in Sri Lanka everyone is expected to dress respectfully in modest light coloured clothing with shoulders & knees covered

NO hats or footwear are allowed inside temples, so flip flops (which you would have to leave at the entrance) and an extra pair of socks are a good idea so you do not have to walk barefoot on the hot ground.
